Liberian Journalist Earns Master Degree

Liberian Journalist Calixte Hessou has completed a Master degree program in Global Journalism from Orebro University in Sweden .

Journalist Hessou, the Program Manager of the Center for Media Studies and Peace Building (CEMESP) and Online Editor of the Monitor Newspaper is six of nine students that completed the course.

According to press release quoting CEMESP's Executive Director Malcolm Joseph, the 2006-2008 class of the program brought together students from Liberia , Yemen , El Salvador , USA , China , Thailand , Malawi , Cameroon and Albania .

During graduation and farewell program on June 10, the release said the Vice Chancellor of Orebro University, Jens Schollin, lauded the students for their achievements.

Mr. Schollin urged the graduates to maintain the network created while studying in Sweden and also be ambassadors of the people of Sweden .

The Global Journalism Program is an international two-year graduate degree program jointly run at four Nordic Universities.

Students attending the program receive their module in Media and Development at Helsinki and Tampere University in Finland ; War and Peace Reporting at Oslo University in Norway ; while Orebro University in Sweden serve as base for the other modules.

Journalist Hessou is expected back in Liberia on Friday June 13, 2008 , to take up his assignment at CEMESP.
