Indiana Law Professor Arrives

A visiting Constitutional Law Professor at the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington the United States of America David C. Williams, has arrived in the Liberia for a week long visit.

Accordingly, his visit to the country is intended, amongst other things, to foster relations between the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law and law schools in the United States .

He is also the Executive Director of the Center for Constitutional Democracy In Plural Societies (CCDPS).

Indiana University is in partnership with the Louis Arthur Grimes and is helping to train Liberian Law Graduates become professors of law.

Recently, three Liberians earned Masters of Law degrees from Indiana University .

The students include, Jallah Barbu who studied Constitutional Law while Betty Blamo and Chan-Chan Paegar studied Corporate Law.

The three Liberian students are expected to join the faculty of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.

The goal of the CCDPS Liberia project, according to a CCDPS fact-sheet, is to help rebuild Liberia 's legal profession and promote a constitutional culture that will help to sustain democracy and the rule of law in the future.

The center's largest project relating to Liberia is to draft the first commentary ever produced on the Liberian Constitution.

The commentary will help lawyers and judges in Liberia to strengthen the rule of law and will also serve as the basis for a casebook on Liberian Constitutional law to be used by law students at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.

CCDPS studies and promotes constitutional democracy in countries marked by ethnic, religious, linguistic, and other divisions.

The Center focuses primarily on Burma , with other projects in Liberia and Central Asia , the center trains the reform leaders of transitioning countries in constitutionalism, parliamentary process, and legal ordering.

It focuses on the constitutional aspects of democratic reform, enabling plural societies to peaceably provide meaningful self-governance to all their citizens.
