Gilbert Houngbo Arrives In Liberia Today

The Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Program and Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa, Gilbert Houngbo is expected to begin a four day official visit to Liberia on Today. While in Liberia Mr. Houngbo and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will participate in the honoring ceremony of successful Liberian entrepreneurs who are beneficiaries of the UNDP/UNCDF sponsored micro finance project.

The RBA Director will meet with members of the United Nations Country Team and key government officials to discuss Liberia 's development priorities as it relates to achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Mr. Houngbo will also participate in the launch of the RBA Regional Project for Capacity Development for Negotiation and Regulation of Investment Contracts.

The Regional Initiative is aimed at strengthening the capacity of African states to negotiate, manage and regulate large-scale investment contracts, particularly in, but not limited to, the natural resources sector, as well as strengthen their capacity for pro-poor natural resource management.

The project will take the form of a regional facility based in the Regional Service Center in Dakar that can support requests from African countries for support in targeted areas.
