Government Indicts Bryant, Snowe, For US$1m. Scandal At LPRC

The Liberian Government has indicted former National Transitional Government Chairman Gyude Bryant and former Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) Managing Director Edwin Snow and several others for allegedly stealing over US$1million from the LPRC.

Others indicted for bribery criminal conspiracy include Siaka Sheriff and Richard Devine, former LPRC deputy managing director and comptroller respectively.

Also indicted is Andy Quamie, former special assistant to Snowe during his tenure at the LPRC. Snowe is a Representative for Montserrado County while Devine serves as Senator of Bomi County.

The indictment charged the accused of allegedly stealing US$ 923,500.00 inclusive of $214, 55.00 during the period of March 2004 to 2006 from the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Corporation.

Bryant's indictment is the second since he turned over power to President Sirleaf. He was earlier indicted for theft of property.

He was accused of stealing more than half a million United States dollars. To date, Bryant's theft case still lingers at the Temple of Justice .

Brayant and the other accused men were seen at the Temple of Justice Friday with their lawyers. They were escorted to Criminal Court “C” by the House Speaker Alex Tyler, Cllrs. Samuel Clarke and Theophilus Gould along with Episcopal Bishop Jonathan Hodge.

After hours of negotiation, they were turned over to Bishop Hodge who promised to return them to court after three working days.
