Bryant, Others File Bond

Former Transitional Chairman Gyude Bryant and four former officials of the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company (LPRC) Friday filed a criminal appearance bond at the Criminal Court “C” to ensure their appearance in court when called upon.

The bond was filed just days after they were indicted on the charges of theft of property, economic sabotage and bribery criminal conspiracy for stealing US$923,500 inclusive of US$214, 55 for bribery and acts constituting criminal conspiracy between the periods March 2004 to 2006.

The surety, African Insurance Company of Liberia (AICOL) filed the bond through the accused lawyers.

The defendants are accused of stealing from the coffers of the LPRC during their tenure with the Transitional Government.

Bryant was the head of the Transitional Government of Liberia, while Snowe served as Managing Director of the LPRC. Snowe now serves as a member of the House of Representatives.

Mr. Richard Devine and Siaka Sheriff were deputy managing director and comptroller of the LPRC respectively while Andy Quaime served as special assistant to Snowe during the time of the alleged embezzlement.

The indictment of Chairman Bryant is the second since he turned over power to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

He was earlier indicted for theft of property. His alleged theft case is still pending at the Criminal Court ‘C' that is responsible for hearing theft cases at the Temple of Justice . Snowe sometimes ago was charged with theft of property, but was not indicted.

Meanwhile, some former Finance Ministry officials also of the Transitional Government who were indicted by the Liberian Government for alleged theft are expected to appear in court today. They include Lusinee Kamara, former Finance Minister, his deputy Tugbe Doe, and Roberta Harris among others.
